Samuel “Sam” Kamuela Kaeo Jr., 65, of Hilo died Aug. 12 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired laborer for Harada Contracting, member of New Hope Christian Fellowship and Kuhilani Street Association, U.S. Navy veteran, and coached the Waiakea Nakoas Pop Warner football team and New Hope Angels, HIA and Men’s Yellow Jackets baseball clubs. Visitation 5-9 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 21) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation again 9-11 a.m. Monday (Aug. 22) at the chapel. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by wife, Madalyn “Maddie” De Ponte Kaeo of Hilo; daughters, Stacey (Mason) Bello and Jodi (Tim) Sumera of Hilo; brothers, George (Linda) Kaeo of Hilo, Rudolph (Val) Kaeo of Kona and Arnold Kaeo of Hilo; sisters, Dorothea (Barry) Sewell of Oregon and Bernice Kaupu of Milolii; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Aiko Oda Kubo, 89, of Kurtistown died July 15 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Papaikou, she was a retired cafeteria cook at Kalanianaole School and member of Papaikou Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. Jean Veronica Murnin, 76, of Hawi died Aug. 10 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Dagenham, Essex, England, she was a retired secretary at St. Stephen’s Diocesan Center on Oahu. Private services.
